Moving interstate from Adelaide

An interstate move has more moving parts than a local one. Here’s how to plan it so your belongings arrive safely and on time.

Start with the dates

Work backwards from when you need to be in the new home. Allow time for the drive and for unloading, and avoid booking your arrival on the same day a lease starts if you can, in case keys are delayed.

How interstate moves are priced

We charge the hourly rate for your crew and vehicle, plus $0.30 per kilometre for moves over 100km. Your quote will include an estimate of total time and distance. For a rough figure, use our moving cost calculator.

Pack for the distance

Long-distance moves put more stress on furniture and boxes. Use strong boxes, fill gaps so contents can’t shift, and wrap furniture properly. If you’d rather not do it yourself, our packing service can help.

Reduce what you move

Every item adds weight and time. Moving interstate is a good moment to sell or give away furniture that won’t suit the new home.

Sort out the paperwork

  • Transfer your driver’s licence and vehicle registration in your new state within the required time.
  • Update your electoral enrolment, Medicare, bank and ATO details.
  • Arrange utilities and internet at the new address before you arrive.

Keep essentials with you

Pack documents, medication, chargers, valuables and a few days of clothes in your own car or luggage, not on the truck.
